He is accused of giving donations worth 41bn won ($36m; £29m) to non-profit foundations operated by Choi Soon-sil, a friend of South Korea's former President Park Geun-hye, in return for political favors.
That lead the court in South Korea has sentenced Samsung's billionaire heir-apparent Lee Jae-Yong to five years in prison for corruption.

Lee showed no reaction as the court found him guilty of bribery, embezzlement, hiding assets overseas, concealing profit from criminal acts and perjury.
Earlier, South Korean TV followed him on his journey from a detention center to the court. He emerged from a justice ministry bus in handcuffs, with a white rope around his jacket, and carrying an envelope of documents.
